How to Properly Care for Your Troopers Corps Jacket

Troopers Drum Major Vitto Pagliardini recently put together a training video (see below) on the proper way to care for your corps jacket, a symbol of pride and tradition for "A" corps members, legacy corps, and alumni alike. While it may seem like a small detail, properly folding and handling your jacket is a sign of respect for the corps and the legacy it represents.

Why It Matters

Your corps jacket isn’t just another piece of outerwear—it’s a mark of distinction that connects you to a greater Troopers tradition. Taking care of it ensures that it remains in great condition for years to come and maintains the respect it deserves.

Folding Your Jacket the Right Way

One of the biggest takeaways from Vitto’s training is the importance of properly folding your corps jacket. Many members were never formally shown the correct method, so this video serves as a helpful reminder. Making this part of your routine will keep your jacket looking sharp and show your dedication to the corps.

Corps Jacket Etiquette

Along with folding, there are a few key rules to follow when wearing and storing your jacket:

  • No cursing while wearing the jacket.

  • No public displays of affection (PDA) while wearing the jacket.

  • Sabres should never touch anything when the jacket is folded. It must always be placed face up and should never be underneath other items. The only exception is when packing it in a suitcase—where it should still be placed face up and as the last item packed.

  • Never lay your jacket on the floor.

  • While wearing the jacket, the zipper should be fully unzipped or zipped up to at least your name and instrument.

  • Your behavior while wearing the jacket is a direct reflection of the Troopers. Carry yourself with respect and represent the organization well.

  • It’s okay to hang your jacket on the back of a chair or in a closet.

By following these guidelines, members and alumni can ensure that the Troopers corps jacket remains a respected and well-maintained part of the organization’s identity. Check out Vitto’s video for a full demonstration and start incorporating these traditions into your routine!
